The cheapest way to refresh a room

A cushion cover can be replaced in minutes; the insert usually cannot. Ordering covers only is the fastest and cheapest way to change the look of a sofa or a bed — and it is far friendlier to shipping costs, because covers compress to almost nothing.

How to specify cover-only correctly

• Measure width × height × depth of the existing insert. Depth matters — a 40 × 40 × 12 cm insert needs a different pattern than 40 × 40 × 18 cm.
• Allow for shrinkage if you are using pure cotton. We suggest 1–2% extra, or we can pre-shrink the fabric.
• Decide the fit you want — snug (finished outer size) or relaxed (sized larger than the insert, cinched by the zip). Relaxed fills the corners properly and looks more expensive.

The zip is what makes or breaks it

• Use an invisible zip, hidden in the seam.
• Allow a long opening — 30 cm minimum, or a diagonal opening — otherwise you will not be able to get the insert in.
• Specify a smooth, heavy-duty zip. Thick fabric plus a fine zip is a combination that snags, and a cover you cannot zip is a cover nobody uses.
• Add a pull tab or cord loop so the zip is not scratching furniture or clothing.

Fabric weight for covers

Covers should be 180 g/m² or heavier. A thinner cover will print thin and can be punctured by the insert’s corners. Thick inserts (15 cm and up) need thick covers.

What it costs you

Cover-only production runs at roughly 30–40% of the price of a complete cushion. Because covers ship flat and compressed, freight per piece drops sharply too — which matters most on large orders.

A practical tip

Order four to six covers in one run and rotate them through the year. The insert stays; the room changes every season. The total spend still comes out below buying two or three new complete cushions.
